April 21, 2014 (Monday) Paint-Out in Martis Valley

Date:          April 21, 2014 (Monday)
Time:          10:00 am
Place:          Wildlife Viewing and trailhead - Martis Valley, Truckee, CA
Amenities:    Pit toilet, picnic table, trails.
Parking:        Free parking area

What to bring:

  • painting gear
  • camera
  • hiking boots
  • drinking water and lunch or snack
  • hat
  • Sunglasses, sunscreen
  • jacket
  • bug spray - just in case the bugs are out early
  • cell phone

Directions:    From Reno:  take I-80 towards Truckee.  Take the exit for 267.  Turn Left on 267 at the bottom of the ramp.  Continue through about two stoplights.  After you pass the stoplight where Truckee Airport is off to the left, continue straight ahead on 267 and start looking for a brown on your right that says "Wildlife Viewing".  Turn Right there and follow the gravel road down the slope to a parking area.

From Incline:  Follow the Lakeshore Drive towards Kings Beach.  At the light, take 267 to your right and go over the mountain and continue downhill, past NorthStar.  When you get into the valley, start looking for the Wildlife Viewing Area or Trailhead sign - indicating to turn Left into that parking area.  It is approximately in the middle of the valley before you get to the turn-off to the Truckee Airport.

What you will see to paint:  The picture above was later in the season when things were more green.  You can also take the trail down into this meadow and follow the Martis Creek for creak views.
